Go for a decent life

This is an excerpt from an article in today's The Star. It' s quite informative and I would like to share it with all Desarians.

Despite the tumultuous state of world affairs and skyrocketing prices, fulfilment is within reach if you simplify your life.

THE soaring price of fuel has made all of us rethink our lifestyles because it is going to hurt us if we are not prudent during this period of uncertainty.

People are discussing ways to reduce their expenditure, cut down on unnecessary purchases, and adjust their routines and lifestyle, not realising that all these challenges are actually self-made.

Our lives are meant to be simple but due to external pressures and the environment we live in, many of us have changed our lifestyles to live up to the surroundings or people around us and now find it difficult to sustain and meet the demands.
Individuals stretch themselves by taking up part-time jobs to earn extra income and doing all sorts of things to keep up with the pace of life for fear that they will be left out from society.

We are never satisfied with what we have, be it a car or house, and we always seek something we don’t have that is bigger or larger.
There is nothing wrong in improving our lifestyle but an individual should think whether the changes he or she undertakes match their ability or not.
Although there is no harm in aiming for the best but one should be practical because failure can be a difficult thing to cope with and it can affect our body, mind and spirit.
More than 70% of problems in our lives will diminish if we have simplified our lives from the start.

We are born to be free, happy and not to suffer but because of our unrealistic desires and aims, we create problems and complicate our lives unknowingly over a period of time.
If you examine the challenges you are facing currently, you will discover that ego and ambition as being among the main causes of the woes.

Our unhappiness, frustrations and setbacks surface when we tend to chase after an indefinable dream and live for the future and not the present.
